Summer time and the living is easy

0

August in Washington. It’s hot. The politicians finally leave and return to wherever they came from. People take vacations and we at Riverside resign ourselves to a less complicated schedule of things to do.

No deacon or trustees meetings. No Koinonia lunch. Even bible study takes a break in August. That said, we do continue to worship and I was heartened to see a good attendance on the last Sunday of July.

Please join us for worship and add your voice to the praise and prayers of God’s people. And if you cannot be in worship, then be sure to include us in your prayers and be safe as you travel. Come back to us safe and refreshed. Also, be sure to financially support the work of the church. Even if you’re not here, the lights are still on and the bills have to be paid. You can now make online donations.

Plans are in the works to enliven bible study opportunities both on Sunday and mid-week with an online conversation. Of course, the worship services go to podcast when we can get them up online. And by the way, I can’t think of a better way to invite someone to church or tell someone about us than to link them to the web site or one of the sermons. Try that and see what happens.

I’m trying to enjoy every minute with Kelley and Kirsten home. Soon, Kelley will be back in Taiwan, learning Mandarin and Kirsten will be starting at American University. Then Melinda and I are back to an empty nest. So August is for us, as it is for you, a time of relaxation and preparation. May the light of summer remind us that Christ is the light of the world.
