“To be a Christian, then, is to be committed to God’s mission of reconciliation. ...It is our responsiveness to God’s offer of new life in Christ. We cannot opt out of it. We are either working toward justice and reconciliation, or we are not Christian—period."
– Chanequa Walker-Barnes, I Bring the Voices of My People
In this bible study, we are reclaiming Jesus – his teachings, his messages, his call for us to be just. But Jesus didn't just pop up out of thin air! He came from a tradition where righteousness and mercy were at the center. Join Rev. Mia for a 5-week bible study intensive that will engage the faith of Jesus' ancestors, how he built on that faith to transform the conditions of his community, and how -- as Dr. Obery Hendricks Jr. suggests -- his faith and teachings have been corrupted.
This bible study will heavily reference Hendricks' 2007 publication, The Politics of Jesus, along with other resources.
