The Reverend Mahogany S. Thomas works at the intersections of social justice and advocacy for marginalized communities based in Washington, DC. As a Missouri native and Washingtonian transplant, Rev. Mahogany believes in creating more equitable futures through radical hospitality. She is the Chief Program Officer for Bread for the City, a local nonprofit committed to human flourishing. Rev. Mahogany is an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the United Church of Christ (UCC) and the former Executive Minister of Peoples Congregational UCC in Washington, D.C. She is an award-winning public speaker who received her Master of Divinity at Yale University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies summa cum laude at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Some of her most recent speaking engagements explored the teachings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Womanist Theology as the Scholar in Residence for Adas Israel Congregation, a local Synagogue in the District of Columbia, and included "Unleashing Joy" with the Hall-Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry, the Children’s Defense Fund, and "Forging a More Equitable Future" for the Missouri Women’s Political Caucus. In addition to her work at Bread for the City, Rev. Mahogany serves as the Womanist Theologian in Residence at Calvary Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., where she works to bridge the gap between the academy and the church, often by cultivating alternative and exploratory forums within the congregational contex
