Sleep Out with Covenant house- November 20

Everyone deserves a safe place to sleep. Pastor Mia invites you to join her for Sleep Out 2025.

Every year, dozens of people sleep out across the country in solidarity with youth who desire shelter but do not have it. By giving up your bed for one night, you can ensure that youth facing homelessness will sleep safely at Covenant House. For the 4th year in a row, Pastor Mia will serve as the chaplain for the Sleep Out kickoff in support of Covenant House's mission (Sleep Out | Covenant House).

Covenant House welcomes every young person with love and respect. In addition to safe shelter, youth can access nourishing food, clean clothing, and essential services like job training, education, healthcare, mental health counseling, and legal aid — all the tools they need to build futures free from homelessness — at no cost to them. Sleep Out raises the funds that make this possible.

Guest Preacher: Min. Kimberly "Kim" Broome- November 23

Join us Sunday November 23 as we celebrate the Thanksgiving season as a community.

Guest Preacher Minister Kimberly "Kim" Broome will join Riverside, you may read her bio below:

Minister Kimberly Broome brings a distinctive calling to ministry—one that nourishes both body and spirit. A Chicago native now serving at First Baptist Church of Merrifield in Fairfax, VA, she seamlessly integrates her gifts as a pastry chef, minister, and Christian educator to create sacred spaces where people feel seen, fed, and empowered.

As an Associate Minister, Minister Broome leads Wednesday's Word Midweek Devotion and co-coordinates the New Disciples Ministry. Since receiving her ministerial license in 2022 under Rev. Dr. Paul A. Sheppard, she has served faithfully in multiple roles, including Church School Superintendent and President of the Destiny Ministry (Young Adults).

Her journey reflects the transformative power of education and faith. A proud two-time HBCU graduate, she earned her bachelor's degree in education from Grambling State University and recently completed her Master of Divinity at Howard University School of Divinity, where she served as Student Government Association President. Currently, she participates in the HUSD Advanced Professional Studies Certificate program and the Eco Preacher Cohort with Creation Justice Ministries.

Minister Broome's professional background as a Baking and Pastry Chef at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C., shapes her ministry philosophy. Her Frozen Lemon Soufflé was featured in Modern Luxury DC's July/August 2014 Restaurant Issue. The lessons of patience, precision, and creativity she learned in the kitchen translate beautifully to her work in the classroom and pulpit. As a Local 25 Union leader, she has championed hotel and restaurant workers, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to justice for marginalized communities.

Whether teaching Scripture, creating culinary art, or advocating for workers' rights, Minister Broome sees her work as interconnected expressions of God's love. She believes that the kitchen, classroom, and pulpit all function as sanctuaries where transformation occurs—where we feed the hungry, help the weary find rest, and ensure the overlooked feel valued.

In her leisure time, she enjoys baking, listening to music, exploring genealogy, and connecting with friends and family over her favorite treats: popcorn, chocolate chip cookies, and pound cake.
