Advent & Christmas at RiversideDC

    12.01.23 | by Mia McClain

Advent Season is upon us! The word “Advent” comes from an ancient Latin phrase meaning “until the coming.” It is a period of spiritual preparation in which many Christians make themselves ready for the coming of the Christ-child -- the coming of something new in this world that might transform our conditions.

In this time for reflection, we take each Sunday leading up to the celebration of the birth of Jesus to reflect on some themes that center us as we wait with eager expectation for the glory of God to be revealed.

There are so many opportunities to plug in this Advent & Christmas season. Visit our Calendar for all that is happening in December. See a few highlights below:

This Advent, SojoAction invites us to their Washington, DC Posada celebration, Dec. 12 from 4-6pm ET. The celebration of the Posadas is an important Mexican Christmas tradition and features prominently in holiday festivities in Mexico. The word posada means "inn" or "shelter" in Spanish.

We will highlight hope and action and advocate with our immigrant communities during a time of fiesta, reflection, and holiday cheer and advocacy. To join Rev. Mia in attending this free community event, register here:

Join us on December 17th at 10am for our annual Christmas concert featuring the Riverside DC Choir, Musicians, & Guests! This will be a worship experience full of diverse music & shared storytelling, and you don't want to miss it! Reception to follow in the multipurpose room.

Virtual participants may join online via our YouTube channel: Riverside Baptist Church DC
